a spectacular lighting Installation on The Zain Tower – Bahrain. The lighting design intent was designed
by Future Brand of London and project managed by John Dickaty from the Bahrain office of the prolific design company dwp.
Working together with Pulsar’s Bahrain representatives Behzad lighting, Future Brand developed a concept for a highly visual, energy efficient LED lighting system that would tally with the vibrant, leading edge image associated with Zain.

The lighting system operates under the control of ShowCAD Artist 3. To ensure energy efficiency of the programmed schedules, Artist synchronises its
timings by use of an astronomical clock function to give daily corrected sunset and sunrise timings. This added to a typical energy consumption of just
4 kilowatts for the entire exterior LED lighting system ensures that Zain’s goal for “green” solutions was achieved.

Worldwide Lighting design in conjunction with Blackpool Illuminations have designed and installed a control system for Carnesky’s Ghost Train.

The ride which features live actors used to rely on a Technician to operate the system , now with the installation of a ShowCAD Artist system it needs one push of a button to start the ride and Artist does the rest.

The “Train Driver” presses a button at the end of the station platform, Artist plays a safety announcement then starts the ride soundtrack.

When the train enters the station to start laps 2, 3 & 4 a beam detector wired into a Digital Input Unit triggers a step command to the next cue.

Artist also plays Real Time Video clips projecting illusions around the attraction. At the end of the ride Artist automatically returns to a preset cue ready to go again.

There are also 5 Emergency Stops located around the track all wired into Artist which immediately put the entire house lighting to full, stops all special effects and stops the soundtrack.

Originally called Regeneration by Light and funded by the North West Development Agency, European Regional Development Fund and Blackpool Council

In a town that is synonymous with lighting Blackpool needed something to bring back the “Wow” factor to it’s Illuminations and regenerate the night time economy within the town centre.

The Surrounding streets project gracefully onto the floor and buildings with eye catching colourful imagery enticing people into the centrepiece on Birley Street. Once there you witness a Light & Sound Show on a grand scale with different shows and music catering for all tastes.

Lighting Magazine said “Journalists are averse to the word ‘unique’, which has become a sloppy synonym for ‘unusual’. The light and sound installation in Blackpool’s Birley Street, however, undoubtedly merits the word and, one suspects, would also be used by the project participants to describe their experience in designing, making and installing it.”

Brilliance has also been awarded “Tourism Attraction of the year” in the 2010 Blackpool Tourism Awards and Highly Commended in this years Lighting Design Awards.

Laser Technology Ltd has been awarded a ground breaking contract to provide monumental laser effects for Blackpool Tower.
Five UK laser display companies were invited to tender for the project and after completing an arduous tendering exercise Laser Technology were delighted to be awarded this exciting and innovative contract.
Lasers will project vivid beams and patterns covering the skyline in all directions from the top of the tower, this effect will be clearly visible from up to 30 miles away, thus drawing attention to the Blackpool resort on a far grander scale than previous lighting effects have been able to. Working closely with Blackpool Council, the CAA and Blackpool airport Laser Technology have developed a set of safety guidelines for the system operation.
The airport management team, air traffic control and the CAA ensure flights are not disrupted during operational times and safety is not compromised. A schedule of flight activity is logged every day and the laser council staff conform to a very strict code of operation. Blackpool International Airport is not a major airport at present but is expanding and the wireless safety solution has been designed to grow with the airport.
The system is operated over a High power Motorola Ethernet wireless link from the council offices over 3km away. Our Nemesis timeline based laser show software communicates with the laser projector via a RIYA Ethernet to ILDA interface. The 35W Excalibur solid state YAG laser also incorporates an Ethernet interface which allows the laser to be started and controlled from 3km away.
All status information is transmitted from the laser to a user interface at the council offices allowing them to monitor flow, temperature and other status information. Regular handshaking messages are sent over the link and in the event of radio link failure the lasers automatically shut down.
A second radio link connects the Blackpool tower projector to Blackpool airport located over 4.5km away. This safety feature gives the airport ultimate control on laser emission. This feature is rarely used as the council staff agree a daily routine based on traffic schedules. However if an emergency situation arose the airport control tower could immediately override the laser shutter. This operation will update the laser operator that the airport have prevented laser projection. Again a fail safe system is implemented in the event of failure of the radio link the shutter will be automatically closed. Specially written software and hardware were developed for this and it runs on a tablet PC situated in the control tower.
Councillor Maxine Callow, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration & Tourism, said: “This is a very exciting project which will enhance the illuminations display not just along the Promenade but will be a beacon to visitors travelling to the resort.
“Blackpool has always been synonymous with light and this is a great opportunity to create our own ‘Blackpool Beacon’ to welcome visitors and residents.”

Laser Technology commented, “this is the first time we have designed a laser to be used in this hostile environment and this is the highest laser we have ever installed.”
